Grading Figured Maple
We have solutions for your Component Requirements
The art and technology of grading figured maple must take into account various aspects of the pattern and quality of the wood. This takes time and experience to master. Aside from color, defects and other considerations, two major qualities to evaluate are how deep the 3D effect is, and how intense the pattern appears to the viewer. "The figure should jump out at you from the back of the concert hall," is the rocker's definition of good flame or quilt.
Timbre Tonewood uses the industry standard grading system - 2A to 5A:
Our grading is predictable. With the expertise gained through years of evaluating maple, we are able to provide you with consistent grading and wood quality year after year. It is also our policy to "grade high," meaning that our 4A is often considered 5A.
